Newman celebrates alumni ordained into priesthood

The Newman University community prayerfully congratulates alumni Father Nicholas Samsel ’21, Father Grant Huslig ’21 and Father Joseph Mick ’21 for their ordination to the priesthood in May 2025. Seven young men, five of whom are alumni of Newman, were also ordained as transitional deacons for the Catholic Diocese of Wichita in May: Deacon Peter Bergkamp ’21, Deacon Paul Brungardt, Deacon Kyle Demel, Deacon Isaac Hilger ’22, Deacon Jacob McGuire ’22, Deacon Luke Meyerhoff ’22 and Deacon Koby Nguyen ’20.

In June 2025, the Diocese of Wichita was recognized as “an exemplary model in the promotion and formation of priestly vocations” during the international gathering “Joyful Priests — I Have Called You Friends” with Pope Leo XIV (Dicastery for the Clergy).
