From the President
We recently announced the “public phase” of Facing Forward – A Campaign for Newman University. This transformational campaign was launched to raise funds for a new science building, named for the Most Rev. Eugene J. Gerber, Bishop Emeritus of the Diocese of Wichita, and for important renovations to nursing and health sciences facilities in Eck Hall.
These state-of-the-art science and health sciences education facilities are critically needed to help Newman provide the level of training our students need to build successful careers. In turn, the facilities will also bring important benefits to the Wichita community and surrounding region.
Newman is already known for the success of our science and health sciences education programs, with over 3,200 Newman graduates serving in science, medical and health science fields locally and around the world. Now, Newman will have what has been missing for too many years: high-quality facilities and technology that will help our graduates meet the demands of the ever-changing worlds of science and health care. Thanks to these renovated and new facilities, Newman graduates who become health care or other science-related professionals will be better-trained, area employers will have a better-prepared workforce, and people throughout the region will receive better health care and other services.
To be sure, Facing Forward is a bold step that will transform Newman University and the greater community through the 21st century. And while we at Newman are used to taking bold steps to transform our future, we can’t do it alone. We have been blessed with many substantial gifts during the “silent phase” of our campaign, which brought us to this point. Now, we ask you to face forward and take a bold step to bring our campaign to a successful close. As you read more in this magazine about the campaign and new facilities, I hope you will give careful and prayerful consideration to making a gift, however large or small.
Remember, by joining with your fellow alumni and friends of the university to take the next bold steps for Newman University, you play an important role in further empowering graduates to transform society, for the benefit of all.
Thank you for everything you do.
