Andrew Hudson says Newman University’s sports media & promotion program did more than give him a degree — it gave him direction.

The 2025 graduate from Haslet, Texas, is now pouring that experience back into his alma mater as a graduate assistant in sports information.

“My time as a graduate assistant has allowed me to connect with different members of the athletic department, while also being able to recruit other student workers in the same degree field,” Hudson said. “I’ve really enjoyed it.”

Hudson began the role in January under Sports Information Director Daphne Williams. He assists with social media, writes game previews and recaps, assists at every home event and helps with the many moving pieces that keep Newman Athletics running. The hands-on work mirrors the skills he built through his classes and student work experience.

“I fell in love with it,” Hudson said of his sophomore-year job in the athletics office. “That’s when I declared my major and decided to go forward with sports media.”

As a student worker, Hudson became a sports information assistant, learning behind-the-scenes operations and media promotion from Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing and Communication Zach Brake while competing on the Jets baseball team. He credits both experiences for shaping his accountability and teamwork.

“I’ve been able to see the ins and outs of daily and gameday operations, so I have a better understanding of just how many people it takes to run this show, and what kind of roles are needed to do so,” he said.

Hudson is now pursuing his Master of Business Administration degree in organizational leadership and is excited to seek future opportunities in his chosen field.

“My dream career is to run a baseball organization with some coaching on the side, applying the marketing, social media and other lessons and skills I have learned throughout my time here,” he said. “I wasn’t always a high academic guy, so I never thought I’d take a fifth year of school, but I’m fired up to get it done.”
