Fall 2008 season highlights
Cross Country
Melissa Ortiz led a highly successful cross country season. The junior from Wichita set the school record in her first race of the year, then proceeded to break it in nearly every race that followed. She earned First Team All-Conference honors and was joined on the All-Conference team by Camille Johnson, Austin Hunt, Chris Taylor and Nick Abbott.
Wrestling
In its first season of NCAA D-II competition in wrestling, the Jets had two athletes earn pre-season national rankings. Isaac Wall and Josh Fansler both showed up on the national radar in their respective weight classes. A rash of injuries slowed the progress of the team, though there were several outstanding individual efforts.
Bowling
The Newman University men’s bowling team set a school record with three tournament titles, which moved the team toward a Top 5 national ranking. Earlier this year the Jets defeated the No. 1 ranked team, Lindenwood University, and the No. 2 team, Wichita State. The women’s bowling team also made great strides and broke into the Top 10.
