Dear Alumni and Friends, As many of you know, between 1852 and 1854 our namesake Blessed John Henry Newman delivered a series of lectures that, along with some of Newman’s later writing, became The Idea of a University. Newman, who wrote the lectures in his role as the founding rector of the Catholic University in Dublin, believed a university education should encompass a wide range of disciplines, and teach its students not simply facts, but the ability to determine the meaning behind facts.

Educating the mind. Inspiring the spirit. The people of Newman University have always taken great pride in their education, faith and sports. This past year, Newman has gone above and beyond. Jets student-athletes not only excelled in their sports and education, but also achieved many “firsts.”
The Newman University Board of Trustees recently elected two new members. Tim Belsan ’05 also joined the board as Alumni Association representative.
Newman University welcomed Father Michael J. Linnebur to campus in June as the university chaplain and director of Campus Ministry. Fr. Linnebur’s appointment to Newman was part of a round of new priest assignments made by the Most Rev. Michael O. Jackels, Bishop of the Diocese of Wichita.
